Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D., is a noted author, teacher and practicing clinical thanatologist known internationally for his outstanding educational contributions to both adult and childhood grief. Recipient of The Association of Death Education and Counseling's Death Educator Award, he serves as director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Ontario, and is on the faculty at the University of Colorado Medical School's Department of Family Medicine.

Dr. Wolfelt is also an educational consultant to hospices, schools, universities, funeral homes and a variety of community agencies. In 1983 he completed a doctoral internship on the department of Psychiatry and Psychology at Mayo Clinic. He has authored a number of publications in the area of death and grief, including: The Journey Through Grief: Reflections on Healing, Understanding Grief: Helping Yourself Heal, Healing the Bereaved Child, Helping Children Cope with Grief, Creating Meaningful Funeral Ceremonies, Death and Grief; A Guide for Clergy, and Healing Your Grieving Heart: 100 Practical Ideas.
