Died: May 14, 2011
Josephine “Josie” Giuliano, 76, a beloved wife, mother and grandma, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Hartford Hospital. She was the beloved wife for 47 years of the late Luigi “Gino” Giuliano, who died on January 2, 2011. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, daughter of the late Peter and Lucia (Santangello) Caracoglia, she spent many years of her youth “the good old days”, playing baseball with her friends in an open lot on South Street and on occasion breaking the 3rd floor window of her family three- family house. In 1963 she married her “dancing partner” Gino. Together with family and friends they enjoyed many years dancing the Tarantella at The Garibaldi Society dances in Middletown. She settled in Wethersfield for 43 years, where she held many gatherings with family and friends, sharing and serving her “canning specialties” such as eggplant, lupini and pickled hot peppers. Josephine’s grandchildren, Cristina and Luke had the pleasure of knowing and having a loving grandma who looked forward to their visits, popcorn movie sleepovers and lunch outings. They are very lucky to have shared vacations together which has led to many cherished memories. Josephine was a member of the South End Lady’s Democratic Club for 30 plus years and the Wethersfield Senior Citizens Club for 6 years. There she looked forward to seeing her BINGO friends each week. She was survived by her loving daughter Josephine (Giuliano) and son in-law Sebastian Vassallo; grandchildren, Cristina and Luke; sister, Mary (Caracoglia) Tata, and many nieces and nephews. Josephine was pre-deceased by her son Peter Salvatore, and siblings, Jack, John and Frank Caracoglia, and Grace (Caracoglia) Garro. Relatives and friends may gather with Josephine’s family during the calling hours on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Her funeral service will begin on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Newington Memorial, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield. She will be laid to rest with her husband and her son in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Josephine’s family would like to express its deepest appreciation to the 23 years of outstanding and compassionate care from Dr. Owlia and the staff at Cardiology, PC; Dr. Kluger and staff; nursing staff at N11 and Conklin CB2. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691. Thank you, mom for being such a loving mother and grandmother. We were all blessed having you in our lives. You meant a lot to many people. You’ll be greatly missed. Love you so much.
